ACTIVITIES OF OTAKI GOLF CLUB The weather proving favourafcle, thoughj at times • uncertain, more especially on the Sunday, all playeps enjoyed good games and. some xine rounds were played over last week-end. All players found fhe greeris very fast, making putting oricky on the rolling , greens, more especially for those members who had enjoyed the previpus night's Victory Ball. Dovey D'Ath Memorial Cup The qualifying round for the D. D'Ath Memorial Cup was played . on Saturday, drawing a better attendance of members than for Ihe usual Saturday draw. A feature of the play was the number of iow nett cards returned, the nighest nett figure to qualify being 77. Two nett cards of 77 were returned and only one was required to complete the number to qualify. J. B. D'Ath won on the count back, having gone out in 44 and home in 39, ' as against the captain, G. Sutherlarid, whose score was out 47, in 46. In previous years a nett score of 80 was almost certain to qualify, 31 and 82 being doubtful, so the results will come as a surprise to those players who returned nett scores of 78 and 79.

The flrst round is sch'eduled for June 8 and the second round for June 15, so players are asked to get their games off promptly. Captaiii's Trophy Some surprises in- the third round of the captaiii's trophy were recorded over the week-end, D. G. Reid's defeat of T. Gray being an indication of better play to follow. W. J. Rzoska, ' i'n defeating E. B. Anderson three and two shows up • his capabilities in match play, while J. Winterburn's win over G. Sutherland when giving away nine strokes was no mean efi'ort. Those players who still have to play their third round are reminded that this Saturday, June 1, is the last day for playing it. The club is holding a two-day open tournament this Sunday and Monday, June 2 and 3. Players are asked to be early on both mornings to complete their rounds by noon, and so be able to start the afternoon round ofl in reasonable time. There will be the championships flight; comprising' the best eight gross . scores, to play olf and as many flights as are necessary for the number of players to play off in flights of eight on handicap play. There will be prizes for the winnel's of each flight, as well as' for the medal bogey and best ba.ll bogey competitions run in conj unction with the morning and. afternoon rounds. The weather proving flne, good.- attendance are expected. Etiquette Th,e attention of the committee has been drawn to players noo giving way on fairways when there is a clear fairway ahead of them. Members are asked to be considerate of other players, and not to linger talking between shots, and to give way when necessary so that the whole field behind them will not be held up.
