There was an increase of 22 in the membership, bringing the total to 108. During the latter part of the season the committee decided to close the membership until the matter could be discussed at this annual meeting. The sum of £100 was paid off the mortage and in spite of this there are ample funds available to cover any expenses until next season opens, "The greens were in excellent order and great credit is due to Mr. H. Wenham, greens superintendent, and his assistant, Mr. H, Nicholson, for the thorough and eonscientious work "carried out during the year. A willing band of fellow members gave them every assistance when they were called upon. A word of praise is also due to Mr. F. Burnham for his care and attention to the gardens and environment generally. Mr. H. Hills established a record when he returned a net profit of £18 0s 2d on the afternoon tea catering.
"There was a marked increase in the number of players during tne week-ends. Two tournaments were held which added over £10 to the club funds. Our thanks are due to Mr. W. C. Childs for his capable management of these tournaments. A combined tournament run by Levin and Central Clubs at Easter attracted 64 players and promises to become a feature in bowling circles. A rink skipped by J. May, Petone, was the winner, the run-ner-up being A. Powell's rink. An all-day visit was paid by Northern Club, Palmerston North. Unfortunately rain prevented the return visit which had been arranged. The visit to Kelburn was apparently enjoyed by all. Games were played with Foxton, Shannon and Central in' the Quadrangular Shield contest. We lost the shield matches, but were successful in the pennant games run in conjunction with them. We retained the Webster Rose Bowl and the Bowater Memorial Trophy and the Wall Shield. Games with Otaki and Otaki Railway Clubs were also played. A rink consisting of Messrs. H. Hughes, A. Meads, F. Burnham and R. H. Henderson (s) won the Takaro Cup from Northern Club and survived a challenge from Central Club. Mr. R. H. Long, our "B" grade singles champion, won the colts championship at Palmerston North. "In conclusion I thank all members of the committee and the secretary for their untiring efforts during. the year, and to members generally for their co-operation and goodwill, whicfFhas made my terra of office a most pleasurable one. On behalf of members, too, I thank those who donated trophies, equipment, seats, flagpole, ladder, coat stands, etc., to the club."
