MRS. MARY McKAIN
The recent death of Mrs. Mary Mc'Kain, of Weraroa, severs one more of the few remaining links with old Levin. She was born at ! Clareville, Wairarapa, in 1866, and flost her parents at an early age, j spending her girlhood years at Wellington, Feilding and Picton. While in Picton she was affianced to Mr. R. W. Welby, whom she married in Sydney in 1889. They returned to New Zealand and later took up residence in Weraroa. Mr. Welby died in 1900, leaving six children. In 1906 his widow married Mr. Daniel McKain, and there were two children of the union. Mr. McKain died in 1924 in his 75th year. During her lifetime Mrs. McKain took an actiye interest in the Women's Christian Temperance Union and other similar organisations. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. A. Cole (Wellington) and a family of six, Agnes Welby (Port Elizabeth ) , Mr.- C. Welby (Levin), Olive Ackroyd (Sydney), Mary Osman (Johnsonville), D. McKain i (Otahuhu) and Leslie McKain { (Ngaio) . The funeral, which was held yes-_ .terday, was attended by a large jnumber of friends and co-workers | of the Church of Christ. The serI vice . was conducted by Mr. H, I Grinstead, of Palmerston North, The pall-bearers were Messrs, D. McKain, C. A. Welby, R. Welby, C. J. Welby, L. R. McKain and F. Osman.
