The Navy's entry for atomic age bomtoing, the twin-engined Lockheed Neptune P2V, flew from Brooklyn to Burhank, California, in the record time of 9 hours 28 minutes. The Navy said the Neptune is the fastest navy patrol bomber ever . built, with a cruising speed cf more than 300 miles' an hour and a range of 5000 miles. It is abie to turn from patrol to attack with atom bombs or 8000 bounds of other destructive agents in the bomb hay, sixteen five-inch rockets under the wings, six 20 millimetre cannon in the nose and twin .50 calibre machineguns in the turrets on the back and in the tail.
