KASHMIR DENIES TERRORISM
SITUATION ALMOST NORMAL Received Thursday, 10.55 a.m. SRINAGAR (Kashmir), May 29. The Government has denied the allegations by Pandit Nehru, the Congress leader, that Kashmir troops have forced people to crawl and clean. the pavements. The Government says the situation in Srinagar and the surrounding districts is almost normal. A cable on May 26 stated that Pandit Nehru had called for a halt m the "reign of terrorism and i'rightfulness" which- was prevailing in the Kashmir Valley after the arrest of Sheikh Abclullah. Describing Srinagar, where the military administration had taken uver as "a city oi the dead." Panait Nehru asserted that clashes were occurring daily, and that seven women were shot dead in the street. 'nuops were lorcing people m some streets to crawl and clean the pavements witli their turbans. Dead bodies were not being given up to relatives. but were being soaked in petrol and burned. Pandit Nehru expressed the opinion that the new "Kashmir" demand, which was directed against tne present Maharajah, was untmieiy, out the "Kasnmir Government had gone beyond limits in its (tcsire to crush a popular movement lirmly cstablislied in the hearts of Ka.shmiris."
