LEVIN TRAMPERS MEET

GROWING INTEREST IN CLUB The growing interest being taken in the activities of the LevinWaiopehu Tramping Club since it was revived in Maroh last was exemplified at the monthiy meeting on Tuesday evening. There was an attendance of thirty-eight and six new members Were elecaed. Tne president (Mr. N. M. Thomson) was; ir» the chair.

Among several routine mattersj disposed of was a financial state- 1 ment showing that the club had a credit balance of over £20, this being considered most satisfactory. The donation of £2 2s was received from Mr. and Mrs. I. D. ParSons to open a f'und for rebuilding ohe Waiopehu Hut, which was destroyed with the track in the hurricane of 1936. The president rernarked that it was a very fine gesture and showed not only ihe personal interest of the donors, but also the interest of the Levin N.Z. Native Flora Club of which Mr. Parsons was president. Mr. Thomi son added that he intended makmg a s'imilar contribution to the fund. and asked members to give some thought to ways of raising further money. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. a,nd Mrs. Parsons, while appreciation was expressed of the president help in the project.

Reference was made to the recenr , postponement of a trip because it] was wet in the morning, but cleared j later. To avoid. disorganisation "of arrangements and doubt among members, it was resolved that in future all outings take place as scheduled. The need for work to be done on the Ohau track was mentioned, and it was agreed that this be considered at the next meeting. The president then reviewed the business of the recent annual meeting of the Federated Mountain Clubs of N.Z., and a copy of the federation's booklet, "Safety in the Mountains" was issued to each member. .. - Supper was served by the ladies and a pleasant hour followed with singing, exchange of library books and social converse.
