TWO OTHER MAJOR SECRET WEAPONS
Received Tuesday, 8.30 p.m. WASHIN C4T0N, May 28. There are at least two major seeret weapons existing which scientists lielieved were potentially as dangerous to mankind as the atom bomb, said l\lr. W. A. Higinbotham, chairman of the Federation oi" Atomic Scientists, in a speech. Mr. Higinbotham named biological warfare and also fission produet warfare, sometimes referved to as atomic poison gas. He gave no details of the weapons but emphasised that Congress should ask the AYar l^epartment to i-elease details in the interests of peace. "There is a defence for the atomic bomb. Cities and industries inight be dis])ersed at a cost of 300,000,000,000 dollars but baeteriological warfare could be used to eut olf the food supply and radioactive materials could be used to trap people in shelters and eaves," he added. "Scientists say the public has a right to know more about these weapons because they are not mere inventions but actually a threat to the whole world — a revolution in huinan knowledge."
