R.S.A. WANTS CHARTERED CLUBS
WELLINGTON, May 29. If club charters are to be granted as a recommendation of the Royal Commission on Licensing, the R.S.A. annual conference considers that returned services clubs should receive favourable treatment and passed a remit to that effect to-day. Mr. J. M. McBeth (Geraldine), in bringing forward the remit, instanced the lack of opportunities j for returned men to get t^gether in : small centres such as his', :and said ! a chartered club would help mem- L bers to maintain contacts in congenial circumstances. Mr. R. Hardie-Boys (Wellingtort) said that, as counsel for the New Zealand Alliance before the Commission, he had formed the opinion that the Commission was receptive I to considerable evidence advocatiiig Imore chartered clubs, particularly j for returned servicemen. The Alliance itself had recommended proiperly controlled licensing of welljrun clubs, and R.S.A. clubs would 'be weli in linef or getting charters j if the Government implemented the recommendations which he thought might possibly be incorporated in the COmmission's forthcbming report. _
