WASTIINGTON, May 25. The Federat-ioii of American Hcicntists declared that scientists expeet notliing of scientific valtie and iittie of technica] value to,the peacetime uses of atomic energy. from the atom-bomb tests at Bikini atoli. The federation, the membership of which inelndes many men who participated in the development of the atom bomb, declared that scientists are co-operating in the Bikini tests at tlie reqnest of their coimtry's armed forces, althougli they do so with heavy hearts and not with entlmsiasm. The scientists seek by education, to teach men tliat they must ahandon atomic weapons to preserve civilisation, but they say they must recognise that it may take an atomic war to teach them. Some scientists are of the opinion that the deep-water test in 1947 will be more importaiit than the 1946 tests, in whicli one atom bomb will be exploded in mid-air and another just under the surface. Tt is said that deep-sea bombing miglit have extreme and unpredieted results.
