HORSES TO BE RETIRED
Many of the geason's best handicappers have run their last races and are to be retired to the stud. Some are still capable of giving good exhibitions ainohg the best in the open grade. "Lady Spiral, who has run some really brilliant races this season, is included in the list and she will be missed in the Wellinton distric.t, where she did most of her racing during her career. She may have seen at least two niore seasons out, but she will go to the stud instead. She is a sound type of mare, and will be capable of breeding good sound stock. Her name will be missed for a few years, but it will not be long bef ore it appears again in the race book. Gala Song, winfier of the Wairarapa Cup Handicap, is also destined to fetire. She is only a four-year--old and was beginning to show promise as she aged. By the field she defeated she would only to have this season to make a brighter record instead of one win in her only start in open company. Foxcatcher is soon to bid farewell to ■ racing, but she really did show her capabilities and Otaki last week v^as a good example. She has shown many good perf ormances and her record places her in the role of a high class mare. She had a liking to the Otaki track and many of her successes were recorded there, but last Saturday was probably her last appearance. She won. 12 races and- was placed 15 times for the stake money of £3,722 10s. The Aucklander, Sweet Bisquit, who is owried by the successful northern owner, A. Goosman, is another who is to be retired.
