(From "Chronicle" Corrcspondcnt) Mrs. White Scott has returned to, Paraparaumu after a lengthy tour 3f thc Far North with her.sister, Mrs. Fife, of Otaki. . • • The weather continues to be very mild and pleasant for the sehool holidays. Great improvements are going on along the Marlne Parade,' Paraparaumu Beach. The road is being widened in places and protected by manuka fences. A new road is being cut at right angles to Seaview Road and the bulldozers and lorries are at work each day. Womcn's Instilutc The Paraparaumu Women's Institute held its May meeting in the Anglican Hall, and it was presided over by Mrs. Hadfield in the absence of Mrs. Hornsby, who is on holiday at the Sounds. The meeting opened .with the institute song. The attendance was not as large as usual, so many members were absent for various reasons. Mfs. Wright, gave an interesting and comprehensive report on the recent1 conference held in Paraparaumu. Various matters connected with the conference were then discussed and I also the remits for the Dominion conference, to be held in Wellington in July. Mrs. M. Eggers is to be tne delegate. Miss R. Clarkson then gave a demonstration on the making of bread and ginger beer, using compressed yeast. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. There was keen competition to possess the loaf of bread exhibited. The sul-

tana loaf was cut up and enjoy ed for afternoon tea. Mrs. White Scott, who has been touring in the far North beyond Auckland, gave an interesting talk on her travels and the institutes in the north. The best flower competition was won by Mrs. Sheargold with a very fine chrysanthemum and Miss Clarkson was second with a zinnia. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Mrs. Dome, president of the Kimberley Institute, was a very welcome visitor and also Mrs. Wilshire of Christchurch.
