NEW MENTAL HOSPITAL
DUKEDIN, May 22. j All single men's huts at ihe Taieri1 ! air statiou, about 120 of tkem, in addition to the dining hall at the Otago Heads military camp, have been takcn over by the Publie Works Departinent and are to be shifted soon to tke site of the new mental hospital at Cherry Farm gear Merton, which will replace Ihe Beaclilf institution. Tlie, huts will provide aceommodation for the wbrkers to be engaged after tlie winter in an extensive engineering scheme for '.providing the main hospital block of 70 acres with roads and drainage. This preparatory worlc will cost rn the vicinity of £250,000 and it will jak'e two years to -complete. Tlie entire hospital scheme is to co'ver a period of iive years at an estiniated cost.of £1,500,000 There will bo aecommodation at Cherry Farm for 1000 patients and the lay-out plan will provide for the eonstruction of 15 villas in. the main bloek, each accommodating 50. patients. Further away from this b'lbcic will be two villas for eldcrly people. - The main hospital block will have acbommodation for 200 patieats.
