That followers of wrestling in Wellington are legion was proved by the packed house ' whieh assembled at .the Town Hall tpnight to see the resumptiou of wrestling after the break caused by the war. The contestauts were Earl klcCready (Canada), British Empire heavyweiglit champion., and Lofty Blomfield, heavyweiglit champion of New Zealand. They gave a display which brought wrestling riglit back to its prewar popnlarity. Blomfield appeared the stronger of the pair in the early stages but as the contost progressed iMcCreajdy's snperior condition Logan to tell. They infused , plentv of life into their work and 1 every round was crowded with action. ' Blomfield secured a t'all in the third | round with a step-over toehold. It was j not until Ihe seventli round* that McC'ueady was able to draw level. Early in the seventh round Blomlield raised a hornets' nest by dealing out a series of heavv elbow jolts. This roused the Canadian to fighting fury. He not onlv retnhated with elbow jolts but also J dumped Blomfield repeatedly with 1 halches and fiying mares and- -had him j so groggy he had 110 ditticultv in seeur- | ing a .fa]l with a body press after the i round had lasted 4 minutes ..15 seconds. | Blomfield recejvecj .such heavy purjish-. ! menf that he ha'd to retire as sooh as^ | ihe eighth and last round started.
