♦ WELLINGTON CENTRE MEETS A mecting of . the Wellington Bowling Centre was held last week. The president (Mr. B. A. GuiseJ made feeling reference to the passing of Messrs. W. Hendry (Hutt), J. 5. Martin (Carlton), holder of the N.Z. singles championship, and J. Brown- (Upper Hutt) , and as a mark of memory and respect those present stood In silence. The treasurer's statement showed a credlt balance of £306 0s 6d. Mr. J. T. Parry, bowl tester, submitted a report in connection with the testing of bowls for the next season. The report was favourably received and appreciative thanks accorded . to Mr. Parry. It was decided to draw attention to the necessity of seeing that all bowls are correctly marked on the discs before the test stamp is afflxed. The sub-committee appointed to submit a report regarding the constitution and aims and objects of the Council of Sport, stated that the necessary enquiries had not been completed, and that the desired report would be submitted at a later date. It was decided that the report be referred to the incoming executive. Mr. W. M. Horton submitted a detailed report in connection with visits which had been recently made to a number of greens. The report indicated that the prospect of good greens for next season was decidedly favourable. Mr. Fletcher stated that he had attended a meeting of the green research committee at Palmerston North and was impressed with the keen desire to further- the improvement of greens. An invitation had been extended to members of the N.Z. Bowling Council to pay a visit to the green research property at Palmerston North during the period of the annual meeting of the N.Z.B.A. The N.Z.B.A. had communicated with Massey College regarding the training of green-keepers and this had .been referred to the green research committee. Mr. Fletcher stated. th'e course' of training for greenkeepers to golf clubs- was .apparently not suitable for greenkeepers to bowling clubs, and submitted that the Rehabiiitation Board might be interested. Mr. Hazelwo'od intimated that on a recent visit to Palmerston North he had been most favourably impressed with the greens which had received attention under the direction 'of oflicers from the green research co/pmittee. In connection with the awarding of centre trophies and badges it was reported that the winner of the junior singles had been awardod a slmilar badge to that presentcd to the winners of the champion singles, pairs and f ours and Messrs. Guise, Hadwin and Hazel/ wood werc appointed to enquire into and submit a report in con- : nection with these tropliies. j Meeting of Delegates
A meeting of delcgates was also held. The N.Z.B.A, wrote returning the threc nominations for the position of councillors to the N.Z.B.A. and advising that thc elcction was entirely in the hands of the centre and that ballot papers should be prcpared by the centre. The elcction resulted in Messrs. Matthew, J. Casey and Joseph Norrie being dcclarcd clected as councillors to thc N.Z.B.A. for the cnsuing term. Thc Gisborne East Coast Centre wrote rcquesting the support of the Wellington Centre to a rcmit providing that each centre should be allowcd proportional representation, or alternatively that each centre should be reprcscnted on the council by one delcgate, with the exception of Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington, • who should in each ca.se be represented by two dclegatcs. On the motion of Mr. Fletcher and seconded by Mr. Casey, thc communication was received and it was lccided that no further action "be taken. • The president reported that the iimual meeting of the N.Z.B.A. vould be held in Wellington on iVednesday,-. June 26, and it was iecided that the delegates to the ST.Z. Council be entertained at an
evening function during the conference; presidents and delegates of the various clubs within the centre to receive invitations and the centre tournament committee to make the necessary arrangements.
