A MUSICAL TREAT

APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE On Friday evening last, at the Anglican Hall, Otaki, a musical recital of popular classics was given in aid of the Paul Hosking Memorial Boys' Hostel by Margaret Lawrie (pianist), Iris M. Sutherland (contralto) and Edna Eyre (accompanist) . It was very evident that the appreciative audience thoroughly enjoyed the musical fare provided for their delectation. Miss Lawrie gave an impressive rendering of the following items: — Allegro (A-rne), Capriccio (Scarlatte) the melodious Sonata in A major (Mozart), Chopin's Mazurka, Prelude In G major and Trois Ecossaises, Gavotte (Gluck Brahms),- a group of modern Russian Compositions, RachmaninofT's Prelude, the favourite Liebestraum by Liszt; concluding with Weber's ever welcome * Invitation to the Dance and an encore Humoresque by Mozart. Miss Sutherlands pleasing contralto voice was heard to advantage in Morning Greeting and The Trout (Schubert), Lie therc, my L-ute (Hamish Maccun), two Russian Gypsy Songs, Wandering (Hugo Wolfe) and three Hebridean Folk Songs, concluding with Don't Thank Me as-an encore. Miss Eyre contributed tb the success of the evening by the careful precision of her accompaniments.
