TIMARU, May 19. The Sout-h Canterbury iirst Avinter xneeting was abandoned on Saturday owing to lreay rain. Permission was sought to postpoue until Fridav next. but the kriuister of Internal AiTaii's couhl not be located. Stakes for the second Winter Meeting xxext Saturday will.be raised-to the Iirst day's level. The Cheviot Trotting Club's meeting, which was td have been- held at Rangiora On Saturday, was also postponed on accouiit of heavy rain. If permission is grantecl the meeting will be held oa Juae 15.
