SHARP BRITISH NOTE TO POLAND
VICE-PREMIER'S "OFFENSIVE" SPEECH i • Received Saturday, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, May 17. The Byitish Ambassador in Warsaw has delivered a sharp note describing as peculiarly inappropriate and offensive the speech by First Vice-Premier, M. Gromulka, wherein he alleged tliat UNRRA was using food for politieal ends in Europe, and influencing votes in the Italian and Greek elections. The note said: "If the British efforts 011 Poland's behalf are to be met in this way, the British Government will know in future that their aid should be reserved for those who know how to appreciate it." The note reminds the Polish Government of the sacrifices by Britain on behalf of European countries, and points out that Poland is third on the list of countries whereto UNRRA suppiies are being sent.
