LEVIN R.S.A.'S YEAR

w PRESIDENT'S REVIEW The activities of the Levin R.S.A. during the past year were reviewed by the president, Mr. H. J. Lancaster, at the annual meeting of members on Wednesday evening.. The report read (inter alia) as follows: — "In presenting the report for the year just ended, the first since, ..the cessation of hostilities in all theatres of war, I feel that I shoiild express our sincere appreciatioh and gratitude for the achievements of our fighting services, and also extend to all who have returned a warm ahd sincere welcome back to the Dominion. "Executive: Your executive has met on twelve oecasions during the year and has given a great deal of time and consideration to the problems affecting returned servicehien and women. Two quarterly -meet-

ings were also held. It is the intention of the executive to hold quarterly meetings throughout • the year for the purpose of imparting to members any information with which they should be acquainted, and also to invite discussion on problems affecting their welfare. "Poppy Day saies: The 1945 sale >f poppies was again very successxul, and our thanks are due to the public for their generous response and continued support, and to the ladies and school children . who undertook the selling of . the amblems. Rose day was also most suceessful, due to the untiring work of the ladies' committee, and to them we express our sincere thanks. : "Anzac Day: Th'e usual parade was held and this was well atteridod by both Diggers and Kiwis, the earlier form of service at the Regent Theatre being re-inaugur-ated, and being well attended by che public. f "Reunion: The annual reunion |was held in June and a record I ;.ttendance greeted oui* Dominion I president, Mr. Bert Jacobs, who was Ipresent by invitation. The func- | ion was a great success and our i] thanks are due to all who attendsjed. A eomplimentary "smoko" was [held during the year, at' which newly-returned personnel were our guests. The annual eomplimentary soeial and dance to members and wives and families was again a very suceessful function, and was well attended. "Entertainment committee: Uhder the leadership of Mr. Len Allen a series of R.S.A. dances were held and again proved popular and" financially suceessful. "Ladies' committee: Our ladies' committee has given devoted and untiring efforts to assist the association in its many and varied activities, and the healthy fipancial position of our branch is in no small measure due to their loyal support. Inaugurated by the committee this year was a chjldren/s Xmas party for the children of exservicemen, and it proved a -great success.

"R.S.A. bowling tournament: Twenty-five rinks took part in this iyear's tournament, including a jlarge number from neighbouring clubs. Our thanks are due to the | Levin and Central Clubs for grant- ■ (Ing the use of their respective jgreens for the occasion. ! ] "Kiwi sub-committee: A committee of World War II members of the. branch was set up to -discuss 1 matters affecting their welfare, and to make representations to the executive committee. "Welfare grants: Grants undei1 I this - heading totalling £79s 4s lOd were distribxited to members or . their dependants in need of assist- \ ance during the year. jj [ "Obituary: We regret to anjnounce the death of one of our 'members in the person of the late IMr. Charles Heremia. The sympathy of members was conveyed to the family.

"Honorary auditor: I would like to express on behalf of the executive our very sincere appreciation of the services rendered for many years past by our honorary audi,tor, Mr. W. Bull, who has ungrudg'ingly given of his time to assist tlie association. Owing to the jgrowth of membersliip and the ;'iarge amount of extra work involv|ed, I feel that this has become too | lieavy for an honorary position, l and that the time has arrived when ;ja paid auditor should be appointed. | "In conclusion I wish to thank p members and veryone who have i given of their best in the interests aof the association during my four j years as president, and to specially I thank our secretary (Mr. W. MedIdings) and treasurer - (Mr. F. BNichol), who have so loyally supb ported me. While this spirit of coJ.operation exists, your association will continue to carry out the ibjects of its existence, the care of our less fortunate comrades."
