CENTRAL BOWLING CLUB MEETS . NEW OFFICERS ELECTED There was a fair attendanee of members at the annual meeting of the Central Bowling Club on Tuesday evening and the chair was occupied by the president -(Mr. A. W.-'Parton). Apologies for unavoidable absence • were received from Messrs. P. Corson, W. J. Blake, E. Lycette, E. D. Bell, B. Armstrong, E. Wingfield, M. Wright, W. C. Stannard, R. T. Martiii and O. H. Hudson. President's Report The president's report read as follows: — "Another year has passed and to-morrow we enter a new one, and, I think, we also enter the hinth year of our existence, so as bowling nlubs go we are quite young. To cast our eyes over those past years and see what has been aecomplished, we have much to oe thankful for and to be congratulated upon. Some of us who were members of other and older clubs can perhaps view from a different angle the various proposals we sometimes consider. . For various reasons I have not been able to accomplish all I would like to have done but we can look back and say some of the most pressing things were done. I can also say that we can feel proud of our success in the Quadrangular Shield competition and we did very well in the Bowater Memorial Challenge Trophy. We must not expect our membership to have so many seasoned players to call 011 as older and bigger clubs. "The club now has a 21 years' lease of the property with a right of renewal. A special vote of thanks is due to Mr. N. M. Thomson, our honorary solicitor, who has carefully watched our interests." Secretary's Report The secretary (Mr. K. A. Bowater) read his report, which vas as follows: "Membership: During the year there has been an increase in the roll number and the membership, including honorary members, now stands at 61. "Games: The club was fortunate that in view of the changeableness of the weather during the season, very few of the playing days were lost, and a fairly successful season was spent in matches. Central played inter-club matches against Foxton, "Shannon and Levin for the Quadrangular Shield and our club was successful in winning the shield by five points. The Southern JPennants competition was won by ! Levin, Central being runners-up, ! -.evin winning nine games and Central eight. Three matches were also piayed against Levin for the Bowater Memorial Trophy, Levin emerging the winners by 15 points. Five games were played for ihe Wall Shield, Levin again winning by 106 points to Central's 75 points.
"Club championships: Senior singles, F. E. Langelan; pairs. B. M. Armstrong and S. Small; rinks, W. Mudgway, D. Hartstonge, H. Poad and W. Sharp; junior singles, B. M. Armstrong. A rink representing Central journeyed to Palmerston North to play in the Champion of Champions rinks and were successful in reaching the semi-final. Several inter-club visits took place during the year with Central playing Foxton, Shannon, Levin, Hokowhitu and Horowhenua Ladies. Barnett pairs and rinks tourneys were also played and a combined Easter rinks tourney was held in jonjunction with Levin Club. All these functions helped to make the season an enjoyable one and also helped to improve the standard of play.
"General: The club loaned its green to the Levin R.S.A. for a digger's tourney, which was well ittended and much appreciated by the players. The committees have worked well during the year and much hard work has been done, sspecially by the green committee. The thanks of the club are due to ohe green committee for the efforts m the green and we are hoping that, with expert supervision and workers of the calibre we have had in the past, our green will soon be in excellent order. Special thanks are due to our greenkeeper for his untiring efforts, good work and interest in the club, and also to all members who have helped in any way with any club matters. I sincerely hope that the club will continue to prosper and make further increases in membership, promote good fellowship and provide happy hours of true sport to its members for many years to come."
