Received Thursday, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, May 15. Britain since V.E. Day has sent 1,400,000 tons of foodHlufls to liberated Europe, said the Minister of Food, Sir Ben Smith, answering an appeaL.in the House of Commons for further releases of British reserves. "This year we have niibstantially reduced our import requirejnents for the benelil oi' other claimants on the world's supplies. "The stocks of food and feeding-stuffs controlled by the Ministry of Food at the beginning of May were 3,806,000 tons, which was about 1,000,000 tons below the figure at the beginning of the year," Sir Ben said. "I am not prepared to furlher deplete our stocks, which would mean more cuts in eonsumption, seriously imperilling the nation's health and ufliciency."
