GENERAL MEETING ELECTS OFFICERS The first general meeting of th§ Levin Amateur Boxing Club since the war brought its activities to a elQse was held during the week iri the Oddfellows' Hall, the president, Mr. J. W. Rimmer, occupying the chair. Activities Reviewed ... . The report reviewed the club's affairs as follows:— "Members and supporters of the club will no doubt remember that in 1941, the clubdecided to go into recess for the duration of the war. Also, it was decided that the club login its equipment to the R.N.Z.A.F, Station at Weraroa for the duration, this body undertaking to return it in good order and condition as it • • •was when lent. "At the termination of hostilities and the closing down of the air station, your committee at once took steps to recover the property ■of the club. We encountered difficulties, as most of the gear ' ■ ' could not be found. Your president, " ! secretary and Mr. Taylor visited the air - station' again and interviewed ,, the. C.O., and' as a result of the visit, the authorities promised to _ ' . - make a new ring and deliver it to ' the cl'ub. This was done, but we ; haye -not received our under-mah. Your committee I has taken the matter up with the Minister of Defence, and your sec-j-retary has also interviewed the 'member for the district, who has r nromised his support in the matter. ,
; V'Your club ran quite a few successful tournaments while in operation and the proceeds of the . last season's efforts were equally divided between the R.N.Z.A.F. and the local patriotic appeals, both ; bodies benefiting considerably. The A * - : last years of the club's activities^-;,? were very, successful and we annex--ed three out of the four Manawata amateur championships, those successful being Messrs. D. Blenkhorn, Ainsley and Taplin. ' This ■■ enviable record was due to the sterling work of the instructor, Mr. S. R. Hercock. "Your club suffered a sad loss by the death of its popular secretary,. ' ... Mr. J. T. M. Brewster, and ther sympathy of the club was conveyed. to Mrs. Brewster and family in her sad loss. "Mr. S. R. Hercock, our instructor, has left Levin and he will be. greatly missed by all members, who _ ( will remember his very fine work'-'-'"' in connection with the club. « "Your committee has held"'" neriodical meetings, during the recess and has now decided that the club should again commenee operations. ^ It is hoped that all old and new members will rally round and again place our town on the map in the sport of boxing." :
Sound Credit Balance As there had been no expenditure since closing down in 1941, the necessity of a balance sheet did not arise, but the books showed a credit of £48 16s 7d. ^ Election of Officers There were several positions to ;/ be filled and the club members elected the following to hold the various posts: — Patron: Mr. D. S. • Mackenzie. President: Mr. J. W. Rimmer. Vice-presidents: Messrs. C. Larsen, W. C. Childs and R. Taylor. Committee: Messrs. G. Cameron, G. Bell, W. H. Walker, P. Stewart, Smith, D. Convery and S. ' ' Bartholomew. Secretary-treasurer : Mr. C. Sherwood. General Matters The club decided to class boys under 16 years as juniors and all those over the age of 16 seniors, the difference being that juniors fight -3 two-minute rounds and seniors 1 three-minute rounds. The subscription for the year was fixed at 5s for juniors and 7s 6d for seniors^
