VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the meeting rooms of the fire station on Monday evening. Those present were: DeputySuperintendent C. D. Gyde, Firemen F. Clough, W. Clough, C. Tremewan, D. Richards, B. Coulter, N. Richards, G. McEwan and W. S. Forbes. Also in attendance were the two newly-appointed messengers, Messrs. AV. Harding and K. Clough. Two weeks' leave of absence was granted Superintendent C. A/Vishart, who is on his annual holidays. The secretary was instructed to make further enquiries with regard to obtaining uniforms. A rather lengthy discussion was held to decide a method of raising funds for the brigade. Many suggestions were offered, but no settlement was reached. The de.puty-superintendent welcomed the messengers and wished them a long and happy stay with the brigade. Mr. Gyde then outlined the duties of the messengers to the boys. It was decided that the brigade should meet on Sunday morning to carry out an inspection of equipment and check fire plugs.
