. WELLINGTON, May 14. Teachers want better schoois and better equipment. That view was expressed at the annual nieeting of, the New Zealand Educational Iustitute in Wellington today, when the following remit was carried : ' ' This nieeting is o i the opinion that in the interests of true educational . progress,. the buildings must be thorouglily hygienic, adequately heated, ventilated, and liglited, witli ainple library, workshop, cupboard and assembly hall space; that the furniture and equipment must be adequate and suitable, particularly in regard to the library and infant room; (also special equipment for music, arts and crafts, social studies and arithmetic) and that the buildings be erected so that the acoustic properties of elassrooms are good." The enthusiasm of teachers for their job liad been exploited for years, said Mr. V. Evans (Northcote). Tliey had spent hours of leisure time malcing teaching aids and equipment wliich the children should have if their work was to be effective but which the Education Vote did not provide for them. There were bring and buy events, bottle drives and queen caruivals to provide such things as pianos, assembly halls and visual education. ' ' Can you see waterside worlcers organising a bring and buy stail to raise fuuds for a uevv crane or tlie miners arraugiiig a queen carnival to provide inacliinery for open cast mini'ng?" he asked. "How long will the teachers stand for it?"
