OHAU HUT VISITED

TRAMPERS' WEEK-END TRIP During the week-end a party of 22 members of the Levin- Waiopehu Tramping Club journeyed to the Ohau Hut on the excursion which rain had prevented a week earlier. The weather was perfect and the outing proved most enjoyable. Travelling by bus from Levin to the Pipe Bridge, the party walked across the open country to the bushline, where the track conimences. It was found that the track was overgrown in parts, and some members delayed their progress to carry out clearing work and cut two diversions in order to circumvent particularly ; muddy parts. The native fiora and fauna in this particular part of the Tararuas is of outstanding beauty ancl abundance, and those members of the party who were traversing the route for the first time were impressecl by the scenery. The hut was reached about noon and the billy was soon brought to the boil and lunch partaken of. The early afternoon was spent variously, some engaging in short tramps and others replenishing the firewood supply at the hut. Later in the afternoon the party made the return trip to the Pipe Bridge by the same route, and boiled the billy before returning home by bus after a very enjoyable day.
