RECORD BETTING MONTH
Totalisator figures for April showed probably the greatest turnover for any montli in the history of racing in the Doxninion. The • ag'gregate for the month was £2,550,000, froxn which the Treasury collects more than £250,000 in taxation, and the racing and trotting clubs approxhnately £200,000. Easter racing and trotting fixtnres aecounted for a iarge proportion of the turnover, but betting was not confined to tlie Easter weelc-end. On three Saturdavs at the Addington trots £127,092* was wagered, and 011 the three days of the O.J.O. meeting at Riccarton the total was £380, 23S 10s. I11 two days at Ellerslie investments totalled £312,421 10s, to which must be added £155,043 at the Avondale meeting, lield 011 the same course.
