WOMEN'S INSTITIUTES
OTAKI'S MAY MEETING The May. meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute was held last week in the ( Anglican Hall. On account of the weather the attendance was only fair. The meeting opened with the institute soiig. The president (Mrs. Lumley) was in the chair and welcomed members and visitors, and received apologies for those absent. The secretary gave her report. After the usual business had been dealt with, the president introduced the guest of ,the afternoon, Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P., who gave a very interesting talk on his travels through Australia, America and Great Britain during his last trip with the Empire Parliamentary Party. Members expressed great appreciation at the way in which Mr. Lowry handled his subject. At the conclusion of his talk a hearty vote of thanks was accorded him, and Mrs. Lowry was presented with a bouquet. Mrs. Clark also gave a talk on the Federation Council meeting held at Paraparaumu recently. Mrs. Harrington was elected delegate to the Dominion conierence, to be held at Wellington in July. A very dainty afternoon tea was. served by the hostesses, Mesdames Nairn, Mathie and McSweeny and Miss Lea. The' competitions for the month were won as follows:— Best liower: Miss M. Taylor. Best shrub: Mrs. Allan. Best knitted singlet: Mrs. Empson. There was on show a nice collection of woollen goods, which are to be sent to' England through the Red Cross Society. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. '
