/ TRUCK AND BUS COLLIDE ACCIDENT NEAR DANNEVIRKE

DANNEVIRKE, May 1Z. Tyro male passengers are (lead and four others are in tlie Dannevirke Public Hospital as the result of a col lision between a truck and Newman 's bus on the niain ' road at Matamau, about a mile on tlie north side of the Matamau Store, shortly aftyr S 9 'clock 011 Saturday night. The dead and injured people in hospital were all' passengers in the bus. They are: — Dead. . Patriek Laurence Lauder, aged 13 yoars, of 15 Richmond Street, fitzroy, New Plymouth. Irvine Stewart Keltie, aged ,39, of 212 The Grove, Hastings. Injured. Roy Albert Lauder, aged 12, brofher of the boy killed, eompound fracture of the right arm, concussiou and liead ivounds; condition sevious. Mrs. Lauder, mothcr of the two boys mentioned above, severe shock. Erancis Audrew Duntop, of Beli Block, New Plymouth, abrqsious aud shock. Mrs. Margaret Dunlop, wife of F. A. Duntop, head injuriesj condition satisfactory. Other passengers of tlie bus aud the driver, Leonard Cliarles Haddon, of Palmerston North, escaped iujury oxvept for minor cuts from flying glass. The driver of the truclc, Bernard Harbottle, of Otane, also escaped with abrasions on the foreliead, knee and elbow, while a youth who was a pa'ssenger in the truck was unliurt. 5 The bus left Dannevirke shortly before 8 p.in. and was 011 the maiu road at Matamau whcn the collision oceurred, tlie side of the truck 's trdy shearing tlirough the side of the bus practically from oue end to the other.. Tliere were twelve passengers in the bus excluding the driver. The boy Patriek Lauder was killed instantly. Another motor aceident occurred at Matamau about 8 a.ni. todav whcn a small car with two occupaats — the driver, J. Artliur C'onnor, al watchmun, of Eastbourne, and Berg1 AIuucli, ciiief oflicer of the Jolm Howard Payne whieh is at preaenl in 'Wellington — left the road, rau along the grass l'or 3(J yards aud struek a telegraph pole. The ear was badly smashed and Conuor was admittcd to hospital with a l'ractured skull and other injurics.
