LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

W.

GYDE,

*' USE OF ' ckuRCH HALL Sir, — I beg space in your publication to reply to a letter received by. the--vicar of -the Anglican Church, Shannon, and sigried by a "Chriscian Mother and- Father," which was' published by you on Friday, 1 May 10. Since when does a Christian hide behind a ' non-de-plume and be afraid of singing their own name. As faf as the story of seeing lights in the Parish Hall and hearing noise coming from it at. 12.45 a.m. on Easter Sunday morning, here are uhe true facts. , The hall was hired oy the Shannon Basketball Club.for a dance on the evening of Easter Saturday and everything was conducted in a manner which would do jredit to any dance committee in ohis town. The dance concluded at midnight sharp and the musicians can verify that fact. The only people left in the hall after midnight were four members of the committee, the mother and a friend of two of those four and the husband of another, who stayed behind to see that the hall was in a fit state for Sunday School the next morning, All of those who stayed behind were out of the hall and the hall was locked before 12.30 a.m. Therefore, the only noise coming from the hall after midnight was the sound of the sweepers pushing brooms over the floor. As for cars tooting their horhs and persons drinking, near the dance hall, that has nothing to do with the committee which ran the dance. The "Christian Mother and Father" would have beeh wise had they lain their complaint to the proper authorities, and not written anonymous letters to the vicar of the arish discrediting the good name of the Shannon Basketball Club. I would like to stress the fact that nobody was under the influence of liquor during the night, 1101* was any liquor known to have been consumed in or near the dance hall. The Basketball Club, therefore, is not to blame for such disturbances, if any, at the hour of 12.45-a.m. on Easter Sunday morning. Youz*s etc.,
