REGENT THEATRE
SATURDAY AND MONDAY A film taut with suspense and rich in expertly drawn " characterisations opens on Saturday at the Regent Theatre. It is Producer'Islin Auster's Universal crime drama, "The Suspect," directed by Robert Siodmak and co-starring Charles Laughton and Ella Raines. Laughton is seen as a pleasant, mild-mannered man who is riagged beyond endurance by his shrewish wife, played by ' ROsalind Ivan. Laughton's unhappine'ss increases when his son, Dean Harens, leaves home because .of her. - In his loneliness Laughton turns to young, attractive Ella Raines and .there develops between the two a tender friendship which ' is maliciously distorted by LaughtoiTs wife. When she refuses to give. him a divorce, and threatens him and the girl with ruination, Laughton kills her, making it appear as though she has accidentally fallen down the stairs. In "The Suspect" film fans have exciting, gripping entertainment. Never for a moment does Laughton lose his- audience's sympathy; he gives a performance that ranks with the best things he has ever done and one which will undoubtedly win great praise for him everywhere "The Suspect" is seen.
