BUILDING CRISIS IN HAWKE'S BAY.

Afany eniployees in the building trade in Hawke's Bay are faced with the prospect of unemployment following the gravest shortage of building materiais in the history of the trade in this province. Builders have been obiiged to dispense with the services of trained . arpenters because . timber to continue the houses is not available. Oue mer- . hant said that although the countrv .vas crying out for hotlses, there was an upinion among the builders tliat the trade faees a major unemployment crisis.* Plant shortages, taxation and -ontrol were the main reasons for the shortage, he said, and wlien a return to the 40-hour week was brougiit into effect in the. busli mills, the position y.vould deteriorate to an appalling. degree. Remedial action xsuggestedv. was ihe inip'ortation of tiiuber and extensive use of xiinus insignis timber. ■.
