The 'Otaki" State 'School headmaster, (Mr.ifJamesl ^presided apd stated hbw «pleased-. he - was to see- such a 'ftneattendance. Mr. James pointed out that by tlie formation oi an association considerable assisfance would be given in fostering Closer co-operation between the; home and the school, the parents would. gain a knowledge of school activities and as a result the pupils' attitude to work would improve. He spoke of the ^dvantage of the unity of parents and children, and considered that by the fQrmation of a body both wopld be brought in closer contact with -.the teachers, who were always willing to help .in any possible way. Some children?, h.e admitted, were difficult to uhd'erstand, but by closer co-operation, this was often overcome. Teachers were both anxious and williiig to , do their best for the chhdreh/ but the" parents' help was '"d'esired. -Mr. James sai'd that he had been connected with a parents' and teachers' aksOciation-and, therefore, knew of j the advantages to be gained. It was hoped that parents wquld, by the formation of an organisation, be able to express their ..views, and to well understand the advantages of education, Mr. Townrow also spoke in support, on behalf of the male teachers of the sphopl, stating that the teachers' rnamlobject was for the welfare of, children.
