SATURDAY AND MONDAY MATINEE SATURDAY 2 P.M.
A film taut with suspense and :ich in expertly drawn characterisations opens on Saturday at the Regent Theatre. It is Producer Islin \uster's Universal crime drama, 'The Suspect," directed by Robert Siodmak and co-starring Charles Laughton and Ella Raines. Laughton is seen as a pleasant, mild-mannered man who is nagged beyond endurance by his shrewish wife, played by Rosalind Ivan. Laughton's unhappiness increases when his son, Dean Harens, leaves home because of her. In his loneliness Laughton turns to young, attractive Ella - Raines and there develops between the two a tender friendshi.p. which is maliciously distorted by Laughton's wife. When ^hevjefuses to give him a divorce, and ' t'hreatens him and h,he girl with ruination, Laughton kills her, making it appear as though she has accidentally fallen down the stairs. In "The Suspect" film fans have exciting, gripping entertainment, Never for a moment does Laughton lose his audience's sympathy; he gives a performance that ranks with the best things he has ever done and one which will undoubt2dly' win great praise for him everywhere "The Suspect" is seen. Excellent work is done too, by the other principals, all of whom contribute their considerable talents to make "The Suspect" the fine motion picture it is.
