Mr. R. J. Annabell, who recently j returned to Levin from service over- j seas with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., has been j appolnted engineer to the Feilding ^orough Council, and has now ,aken up his duties there, On Saturday night, Mr. W. O., Neas, first assistant at the Levin School, will journey to Wellington as a representative of the teachers' of the Horowhen*a district at the teachers' annual conference. The conference is expected to last a week, •? , . Mrr J. F. Gavin, who recently returned from service overseas with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., has accepted a position on the civilian staff- of' the British Administration at Asmara, „j in Italian Eritrea. Mr. and Mrs. | Gavin are leaving for North Africal as soon as'shipping can'be arrarig-] ed. , The flag at the Levin School was flown at half-mast to-day as a marlc of respeet to the memory of rhe late Mr. R. Mrs. D. C. Alley, who is staying with Rev. and Mrs. H. S. Kmgs, cambridge Street, will be tne ; speaxer at St. John's Methodist ' Church on Sunday morning. Mrs. Ailey is a missionary from the Solomons. Her husband lost his life as a prisoner-of-war. Queen Wilhelmina led Mr. i Churchill to a baicony where he gave the V sign amid the roar of the erowd. Mr. John Ritchie has been appointed art master at Wairarapa cohege in succession to Mr. S. B. Maclennan, wno takes up his post shortly aS education officer to the jNJational Art Gallery, Wellington. . Mr. • Ritchie, who served with the i'Army in the Middle East during the: dcent war, holds the Diploma of Finei Arts uSf.Zj and has exhibited at the National Gallery.
