"Butter" made from coal, produced as an exhibit at the conference of dairy factory managers at Massey College, created more than the usual amount of interest. Prof. W. Riddet said -it probably came from Germany and it directed attention to the fact j that New Zealand' .could not ignore synthetic f ats. ' , " . "We must he exceedingly careful in the matter of costs of- production, ' ' he said, "if we want to maintain our stability in.tlie production of dairy produce. ' ' The "buttcr" was a greasy"creamy coloured suhstance with no srnell. Nohody wanted to taste it.
