BRITISH FORCES IN EGYPT
WITHDRAWAL PROPOSAL Reeeived Wednesdav, 1.55 a.m. CAIRO, xMay 7. A British Embassy statement issued on behalf of the British delegation nogotiating a 'revision of the Anglo Egvptian treaty, after aimouncing4 a proposal to withdraw all British Naval Army and Air Forces, adds: " lt is further proposed to settle the stages and date of the completion of the with-' drawal and arrangements to be made by the Egyptian Government to make pos siiile inutual assistance in time of war or imminent threat of war, in 'accortl anee with the alliance. It is the British Government 's settled policy to consoli (late the alliance with Egvpt as o.ne -between equal nations with comnion inter- . ests. The negotiations have begun in an atmosphere of cordiality and goodwill Reuter's Cairo 'correspondent says thal observers close to the Egyptian delega tion, expressed the view that treaty negotiations to settle the stages and date of the completion of the evacuution, would be eompleted under a fortnight. The Egyp'tians were very satisfied with the British statement whieh left no doubt about British intentions.
