McLENNAN AND EASTON CUPS WON
Athletic seniors met Hui Mai at i Manakau and w;th the. McLennan i and Easton challenge cups at stake both teams were determined to.give I nothing away. aThe game .was wery fast right to th'e final whistle,; and some excelient forward work by ; both teams was witnessed by a large crowd. Tahere were several good back movements, but fast-break- ; ing forwards .kept the inside backs I in check most of the day. ; At the conclusion of the game, Mr. P. A. Page, president 'of Hui ; Mai Club, presented the cups to the 1 winners. The captain, Mr. D. "'Den- ! ton, replied on behalf of Athletic. j Play started off at a fast pace and i after five minutes Athletic were awarded a penalty kick resulting , from a scrum infringement by Hui Mai. Galloway converted with an • excelient kick from well out. .Athletic 3, Hui Mai 0. Shortly after the kick-off, Hudson secure'd the. ball ' from loose play and with opposition ; backs out .of po^itibn he passed to [ Stev-Ghs, who ra-ri 50 yards to score ; in the c'orner. Galioway's kick | missed. Athletic 6, Hui Mai. 0. -Both reams then settled down, and for the rest of the first half play was very even, with solid rushes by both sets of forwards and •occasional good back movements. Half time sounded with the score Athletic 6, Hui Mai 0. The second half opened with Athlc-tic attacking hard, and for ten minutes play remained in Hui Mai territory. Hui Mai then rallied and took-play back to Athletic's twentyfive, where a penalty was awarded against Athletic. Staples' attempt failed. Shortly after Hui Mai were again given a penalty and once more the kick by Staples was unsuccessful. Play fiuctuated for several minutes until offside play by Hui Mai gave Galloway another successful attempt at goal. Athletic '9, Hui Mai 0. From the kick-off Hui "Mai, with a gcod forward rush, took "tne ball to Athletic twenty-five, Where Hudson made a- .good save. An Athletic forward rush, 'headed by Corbishley and O'Donnell, was well stopped by the full-.back, .Corbett, who clea-red with a 'good line kick. With about ten 'minutes of play left, Athletic once again took the game to Hui Mai line, where from a.scrum Blenkhorn secured the b.all and dived round the blind side to -score. Blenkhorn converted from wide out on the lipe. Play see-sawed .up -and dcwn till the final whistle. Mr. B. Boyd ably cbntrolled the game-.
