ORIGIN NEAR NEW ZEALAND

WELLINGTON, May 6. A fairly substantial earthquake was recorded in Wellington Observatory s^ortly after 10 a.irv on Saturday and continued for two hours. Officjals said to-day that they had , not had an opportunity of checking, but believed that the origin of the trernors was not yery far from New Zealand. A London cable says that severe eartb tremors estimated to come from the South Pacific, were recorded in the Isle pf Wight .for more than 210 minutes. A New York message says Fordham University seismograph re- . eorded two "severe" earthquakes at approximately 10.25 and 10.30 p.m. g.m.t. on May 3. Father Lynch placed the earthquakes in the vicinity of New Guinea.
