OTAKI CROQUET CLUB

CLOSING DAY FUNCTION , Ideal conditions prevailed for the end of -the season gathering of the Otaki Croquet Club. Visitors were present in large numbers from all , parts of the district, when the wellkept green looked most festive with the pretty f rocks of the assembied' c'rowd. Competitions were the order oi fche first part of the afternoon, and chen all adjourned to the pavilion which had been beautifully decorated, for a delicious afternoon tea. Mr. Lowry (president) -received the guests, while General Young (president of the Otaki Bowling Club) presented the prizes. The prize winners were: — Champion singles, Mrs.' Young, the Symonds Cup; runner-up, Mrs. Evans. Championship doubles, Mesdames Lowry and Jensen; runners-up, Mesdames Evans and Percival. Most improved player, Mrs. Guerney. Club competitions, Mesdames Whitelaw and Merwood. ' Special prizes, Mesdames Whitelaw, Drew and Miss C. Clarke. Mrs. Lowry thanked neighbouring clubs for attending. Mrs. Staples replied for Manakau and Mrs. Cobb for Municipal Clubs. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. A'. Wilson (president of the Municipal Club) . Prize winners of the competitions were: — Clock: Mrs. Whitelaw I, Mrs. Meredith 2. Golf: Mrs. McBeth. Aunt Sally: Mrs. Shaw. Croquet in rain: Mrs. Meredith 1, Mesdames Guerney' and Merwood 2 (equal) . Amongst the visitors was Mrs. Bryant of Manakau, president of the District Croquet Council and Mrs. Cook, a life member.
