FUItTHER LETTER FROM THE MINISTER The Mayor (Mr. R. E.( Downes) has received a letter adclressed to Mr. L. G. Lowry,. M.P., from the Minister of Works (Hon. B. Roberts) in reply to a telegram from Mr. Lowry, asking if building constriiction on State houses at Shannon could be speeded up and further contracts let. Mr. Roberts stated that he had ascertained from the Director of Housing Construction that the builder who has had the contract for four houses has been held up througlr shortage of . materials. However, it is expected that he will commence work on the houses within a few days.. Mr. Roberts stated that considerable difficulty has been experienced in letting satisfactory contracts in Shannon, but a further contract will be made available if there is any prospect of letting it after construction work on the contract above mentioned is proceeding satisfactory. Since the above letter has been received construction work on the units in Grarid Street has been commenced.
