SATURDAY'S MEETING
Excellent entries ' have been received for the Foxton Racing Club's winter meeting, to be held at Foxton on Saturday. Thg.r..second ,eve$t, th,e Poroutawhao" Hu^dles^ has .-drawri good field in \vhicii& Vol't^ire, if • started, will probahly" be^iavouri^ ' He is '^h acccptor for Foxton and' Egmont, "but^wherever he statt^lie is.always licay-ily 7 backed. . At hls 'lasj three starts he has shown good speedas well as jumping ability. and in his iast race at Feilding he came from a long way back to secure fourth. This six-year-old Croupier gelding looks a very likely prospect, and he is'a piipil 'Of Mr. E. C. Baker, Otaki, who has also been successful with other jumpers. A -winner at his last two starts over hurdles, Foreign Coin who is. quite new to the game, and who is also in the Poroutawhao Hurdles, might add another success to his list. The aged Lackham — Foreign Princess gelding was once a star sprinter, and it is very rare to see a sprinter 'make good as a hurdler, but Foreign Coin has been successful. His chances seem bright, although he has a good field to. defeat. Gold Money Song is a newcomer for the season, and he only needs tc reach last year's form to carry offthe prize. The Hunting Song gelding: took many country- circuit prizes, and a spectacular feature was • that when racing he always tried to get out in front and stay there. At this he was often successful, though still^green to the game. It looks as though Gold Claim is returning to form as he secured s third to Foreign Coin at his last -race in Feilding. His form has been hard to follow, although he ran several good races earlier this season. If hg returns to his old form he will most likely make a Aame for himself, as he was giving Foreign Coin 71bs and Tid Apa 31bs. Tid Apa also has'a chance. Trig Point has also run some smart races lately and will command attention. Mr. K. Shaw's Culloden Moor only needs to repeat his Manawatu form to win. This three-year-old gelding by Solicitor General has plenty of dash, and the lengthened Foxton straight will suit him considerably. Singing Hills has shown good j f orm in sprints at the Wairarapa | meetings, and he might prove hard I to beat. This five-year-old Fox- ■ light stallion is capable of winning. I rich prizes, and an example of his I ability was shown by his fifth in the New. Zealand Cup. . His winning turn is- ;near. Although Lady Spiral did fiot have the goihg to her liking she made a ' valiant eff ort to win the Wairarapaj Easter Handicap. She made the pace under restraint and when-jjoined by Miss Delaware and latef by Barrage nearing thestraight, she battled on gamely and went under by only a head. She has a luxurious weight for Saturday and if she paces it out she will be hard to bcat. ? • Btcp Far, who won the Motueka Handicap on Monday after running second to Buddy on the first day of the Nelson meeting, is a ! five-year-old gelding by Leiglton j from Weatherstep, and is owned | and trained by Mr. G. Lamb, of Foxton. He is entered in the Moutoa Hack and has quite good prospects. Hulabaloo is going to have another attempt at winning, ' and this time he. might succeed. He has won only three races for the value oi £475, but his plaeing mosoly while I in open dompany total £1250. It was at the Foxton meeting at Awapuni ■ in September, 1944, that he won his last race, and he might run at the Foxton meeting on Saturday. Hulabaloo, who is by Hunting Song from Prickles, .was- b.pught as a yearlihg fqr 21.0 "gmnea:s. j Aichemist has been running con- | sisteii'tly Jately: and' ' her . turn must j soon: be near. * She ran. gb.oH .races' I a^h'Manawatu'- ,'and ! Feilding. 1 At | F#ldhig she nh'ight" have sqgured a place only tp.be checked. This horse has speed and she might shoW what She; ' ban ' do at FoHtbn . Balcher.rie looks1 a promising hack, and it was'bad luck. when he fell at Trentham $ist w'heh challenging. ' That fal'l put him out for "a while, j but he has been . quite promising ! lately . and he would not have to j improve much to win. He ran at Riccarton and was about sixth all the Way', which proves that he is near fofm.
