Master Dash, who won • liis second Canterbury Jockey Club's Great Easter Handicap on Easter Monday, witli 9.12 oii liis back, is the Dominion 's best sprinter at the present time; in fact, no compares favourably with the best this land has ever produced. He tyas bred by Mr. R. J. Grego.ry, Clive, being a bay gelding by the ^irnported Gyneriuni from the Lord Quex mare Royal Dash, bred by the late Mr. W. G. Stead from the imported Lady D, by St. Denis (a son of St. Simon) from Lady C, by Ladas from St. Cecelia, by St. Serf (by St. Simon) from Mclody, by Tynedale from Sweet Sound (sister to the Derby winner Kettledrum, and half-sister to Mincenieat, winner of the Oaks,;hnd to Clove, ancentress of Abercorri, "Wolaroi and Bigaroon, three great Australian performers) ~ by Eataplan. •Tlius it.will be seen that Master Dash comcs from the best English blood and is a member of the No. 3 family. Master Dash is live years old and began racing as an early two-year-old by winning at his first attempt at Napier Parlc. He was unplaeed in his next eft'ort, but won again at his third start at Wellington and it was after that win that his owner-breedcr, Mr. E. J. Gregory, sold liim for 000 guineas to Mr. E. Louis, Wellington, who still owns him. Eor the latter sportsman Master Dash was started fwice as a two-year-old to win at Wellington and then at Wairarapa, so that as a two-year-old he won four times in five starts. As a ^three-year-old he won twice only, inclndiug" the Great Easter, and as a fpnr-yeai-old. he was only started thre"e' times for a'Wiu, a fourth, and an unplaeed performance. lt luis been this seaspn that he has really distinguished h'imself, being only onee ouj of tlic money in 12. starts.
