Conditions in and around the Shannon district seem to favour the sportsmen, who are of the opinion that owing to the dry weather ,m the north the birds will make their way to the Manawafu and Wairarapa districts, and favoured with suitable weather at the weekend optimism is expressed and good bags expected. However, the sale of licences has not been great at the local post office, where only half-a-dozen have been sold. ' " Local retailers are for the moment pessimistic about the supply of shot-gun ammunition. It. seems that there is some difficulty in obtaining supplies, from the manufacturers,.. althqugh the position is expected to" improve as the' season progresses. ..
