WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

A social evening was held in the Anglican Hall on Wednesday to mark the 15th birthday of the 'Otaki Women's Institute. There was a large attendan'ee- cjf members, their friends and visitors from Levin and Te Horo. Greetings were received from Manakau and Paekakariki. The gathering was entertained with a most enjoyable programme of vocal and other items, those eontributing being Mesdames Gower, Munro and Harrington, the Misses Taylor and Johnstone and Messrs. James, Townrow and Lumley, the latter also acting as M.C. Mrs. Bartholomew was the accompanist. During the evening a presentation was made by Mrs. Lumley the jpresident, to Mrs. Synnott to mark the appreciation of the institute for the great interest she has taken during her 15 years as member of the committee, including three years as president." She also received the long service badge of the W.I. Presentations were also made to Mesdames Calwell, Turnbull, Ralph .and Mould. The winner of the year's competitions were Mrs. Mould 1, Mrs. Parsons 2, Miss Brown 3. After a very enjoyable supper, the birthday cake was cut by Mrs. Synnott and Mrs. Powell, of Levin. The floor was then cleared, and a most enjoyable evening was rounded off with dancing to the playing of Mr. Pat Sharp.
