McINTOSH AND BURKE ACCUSED.

WANGANUI, April 29. Two young meii appeared in tlie Poliee Court today cliaiged with liolding up the proprietor of tlie Rutland Hotel on March I and robbing him of £453, and also with bvealcing and entering the premises of the D'epartment of , Agriculture, Wanganui, on the night of February 25. They were: — Raymond Edward Mclntosh, garage attendant, aged 22. William Laurence Burke, labourer, aged 20. Both pleaded not guilty and wefe eonimitted for trial at the next sittings of the Suprenie Court in Wanganui, opening May 13. With another young man, Ivenneth Hardy Brandon, freezing worker, aged 20, they were charged that on hfarch 23 at Wanganui, they broke and cnter ed the warehouse of the Air Training Corps aiid stole a Sten gun valued at £8 15s, the property of the Corps. All three pleaded guilty to this charge and were committed to the Supreme Court, Palmerston North, for sentence. The Sten gun to whic'h the charge relates, was the one used when the Bulls branch of the Bank of New Zealand, was held up and robbed on March 25 last. Mr. J. A. Ongley, of Palmerston North, appeared for Mclntosh in regard to the charge relating to the Rutland Hotel. Burke was not represented by counsel. Dctective Sergeant J. K. Robertson prosecuted for the police.
