FOXTON JUNIORS HAVE A COMFORTABLE WIN
BETTY SCORES THREE TRUES Athletic and Foxton juniors met at Rugby Park, Levin, the lattei winning by 14 points to nil. The match was perhaps a gruelling one fornthe players, but from the point of view of the speetators it was rather monotonous. Foxton seemed to be the better side and deservec their win. K. Betty played a gQpc game for Foxton, scoring three Itries. The players were as follows:— Athletic: M. Mead, E. J. Fox, T Lancaster, P. Bond, V. Bonner, R Hinckesman, G. Rippen, R. Rapsom J. Close, J. Prendeville, H. J. Lav (captain), A. Hills, T. Carrferon, T Bond and J. Shirkey. Foxton: B. Harram, J. Carter, K Betty, D. Langley, P. Peach, P. Barrat (captain), W. Lacey, T. Richardson, P. Boyle, M. Richardson, H jReid, H. Witton, j/Rauti, N. Wilson land E. Wallbutton. j Athletic kicked off. Foxton lost nc [time in carrying the play into their iopponent's half, and held their | ground during a series of line-outs land loose scrums, until Betty got ithe ball over the line in the corner. This try was^not converted. For ! some time after play was undecided i although mostly in Athletic's half. 'Then Foxton backs got away into ^ promising movement, which was checked by their winger running into touch. The game was brignU ened at this stage by a series of determined r'ushes by the Foxton forwards, whibh Athletic succeeded in holding off, and play once again became undecided, with one or two good attempts by the Athletic forwards to take the ball into the Fox-r ton end of the field. However, Betty scored once again after following up a kick and falling on the ball as it rolied over the line near the goalposts. It was converted without any difficulty, making the score 8 — 0 in favour of Foxton. For the remainder of the half, numer-r ous loose scrums and many line-r outs made the game most uninteresting, apart from occasional back movements, which began we'll but deteriorated into desultory milling about, so that the score at halftime was unaltered. Foxton kicked off in the second half, and for some time there was a period of desultory play, but Athletic came very close to scoring when a determined att'ack by' their forwards took the ball to within five yards of thq .Fdxtoh goal line.-. Athletic? was uplucky ffot to score at this point., and play was taken back to the home team's terrffpry by a gopd passing movement on the part of the Foxton backs. The next try came when Betty scored under the posts after a brief sortie of passing and short punts, bringing Foxton's score to 11 points. Shortly after Foxton were awarded a free kick in a handy position and the score altered to Foxton 14, Athletic nil. The final stages of the match saw Athletic making some very determined attempts to score, and only bad luck" prevented them from doing so. Mr. W. Williams was the referee.
