AUCKLAND, April 27. ' | The first shlphient of canned goods ■ to reach Auckland from the United | Kingdom since before the war, ar- j rived on the steamer Northumherland | from London recently. The consignment consists of several thousa.M cartons of canned herrings of which 1600 were for distritmtion in Auckland, and the remainder to southern centres. "If there is such a shortage of food in Great Britain, why are they exporting food to New Zealand?" asked the secretary of the Watersid- | ers' Union, Mr. R. Jones.
