Received Monday, 12.30 p.m. LONDON, April 28. , British experts are examining plans for a new canal from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea under British control, bypassing the Suez if necessary, says the Daily Mail's Jerusalem correspondent. The canal .would run from Gaza across Southern Palestine to just West of Agaba. It is thought that the plan may be submitted to the present Dominion Premiers' Conference, as it is suggested that the Dominions might share the cost and hold shares in the controlling company. The work would occupy ten years, but it would be ready before the Suez Canal passed to Egypt in 1968. Naval experts are believed to favour the scheme as less vulnerable, and allowing for the quick switching of squadrons from one sea to the other. Palestine, within ten years, may thus become a mighty British base, which, with the oil pipelines, would be better than Egypt.
