TURN OFF THAT RADIO!
,WE L LIN GTON, April 25. : Beginning on Monday, additional restriclious are to be placed on the houi'S of broadeasting. On Mondays to Fridays each week, all broadeasting stations throughout New Zealand will close down between 8.10 a.m... and 8.40 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon, and from 5 p.m. to ti p.m. till further notice. Announcing the iiew restrieted hours last evening, the Minister of Works, (lion. K. Bemple) aiid Minister ' of Broadeasting (Hon. F. Jonos) said a reductioii of some 15 per cent in the litmrs of broadeasting had become unavoidable owiug to the increasingly serious positiou in the electrie supply tliroughout the North lsiand. In round iigures there wero over 250,000 radio recoiviug sets in the North lsiand and all these sets took inuch more power tlian the transmitting stations. If llsteners took particular care to see that tlieir sets wero actually switched ofi from the power supply when the statious closed down, the savings in power would be cousiderablo and vould be made at times of tho day when the peak load was at its inaxiuium.
