FALLEN HEROES REMEMBERED
ANZAC DAY SERVICES LAR6EY ATTENDED In the dwindling days of autumn, when falling leaves are reminders of the transient nat.ure of ' ear.th.ly- things, Anzae Day is nationally observed as an oc.easion for remembering with reverent homag.e the immortal deeds ,of those gallant mhn who laid down their lives in the two World Wars, deeds which '"(time cannot wither nor custom stale." Yesterday their grateful country, in the first Anzac Day observance since victory in World War II, honoured its dead heroes. The weather was beaiitifully fine in this district, and the yarious assemblies throughout its length and breadth were well attended. The keynote of the addresses given at memorial services was perhaps that although the cessation of hostilities had brought victory to the Allied cause after great trials and immense human saerifice and suffering, the peace w.as yet to be won, and that it was for us, with God's heip and'guidance, to bring about "peace on earth, goodwill towards men," in which •cause so much has4 been paid in human saerifice.
