NEW FABRICS FROM WOOL
Received Friday, 7 p.m. LONDON, April 24. The finest and lightest woollen materials yet made are heing shovm at an exhihition which was opened in London today under the auspi.es of ihe International Wool Secrstariat. They were ihade hy a process develcped at Leeds University, whereby wool is woven with alginate made from seaweed. The alginate, after weaving, is removed- in a sco'uiing process, leaving sheer cloth iri tveight' from an ounce per yard; The International WOol! 'Sec --etariat is publicising the new fahrics as light and pleasant to handle and comfortahle to wear. The new. weave can he used for sheer stockings is . strengthened hy inter-weaving ten per cent of nylon yarn. The development of the process means 'that weavers- have fina'ly caught up with the spinners who have ■ always heen ahle to produce yams too fine for normal weaving methods. The secretaxiat is confident the material v/ill carry wool into a wide new market. '
